Another batch of knives returned nice and sharp and this included a blade made in M390 steel, which for an unskilled person like me is very hard to sharpen, but not for the sharpening service as it was returned with a keen edge that should last for the rest of the year. Once again, very good service!

After posting them I received a further email confirming receipt. The time from posting the scissors to return was less than a week and they are now good as new. Was concerned about getting the right person to sharpen my black Kyocera knife but fortunately this company was here to help. The knife was returned in suitable packing and after washing, I set out to test it with negligible pressure it sliced through raw tomato and plum skin and I can now cut the thinnest cucumber slices ever.
Extremely pleased all round.
Must remember only use on wooden cutting board!

Having only sharpened these at home I was delighted at the sharpness that has been put back on the knives, I had been wary of sending via the post and during lockdown but no worries. Excellent service. As I am a hairdresser and not working due to Covid-19 I was able to send all of my scissors and clipper blades all in one go. I emailed in advance and received super quick reply then posted, they were returned sparkly clean and super sharp within a couple of days!! Tried every pair out including clippers on my husband and the scissors feel and cut like the day I purchased them many years ago!
Will not have any qualms sending them again next time when I am working knowing the super quick turn around so I will not be without them for long.

I have a set of kitchen knives which are about 15 years old and had become quite blunt. I decided to get them sharpened and found The Sharpening Service online. I posted the knives on Tuesday and received them back on Saturday, perfectly sharp. Thank you Robin for the training given over a very relaxed 3 day period, the hands on experience and business insights you offered have been a great help. I must say that the decision to purchase multiple pieces of equipment was at first a concern due to the expense but having spent a little time practicing and subsequently just two weeks in the field both promoting the business and sharpening scissors, knives and clipper blades, I can only say wow! If you are prepared to put the effort in, the rewards will be there and this is definitely a decision I will not be regretting any time soon.

Sent off a set of liveryman blades to be sharpened Friday, received them back on the Monday. Used them today to clip the horses and they clipped perfectly, lovely straight lines and fast excellent service.
I previously visited the Sharpening Service to get my blades sharpened in person and my other halves chisels sharpened. The chap was very knowledgeable and talked us through it as he done it. Chisels never been so sharp.

Incredibly fast - called me the day after my knife was sent in to say it had arrived and been sharpened. It had needed an extra 'reprofiling' and that this had been done - it had previously been sharpened by an idiot!

The knife (a Global Santoku) was wickedly sharp with a nice polished edge.

When I get around to it I will be sending in a Tojiro Senkou knife - also ruined by the idot who messed up my Global.

A class act, highly recommended.

I normally whet stone my Global Knives however my beloved Cooks knife was dropped outdoors sustaining some damage to the edge.

This would have taken hours of stoning to remove. To mitigate the postage cost both ways I decided to send my full set of 7 knives to be sharpened.

The speed to sharpen and reshape was amazing; same day despatch and with me as promised the next day.

Nice clean sharp edges just a quick fine hone on the stone and they are razor sharp.

Would not hesitate to recommend and would definitely use again.................wish I lived nearer!!!

I bought a lot of second hand tools from a boot fair and the set of Draper chisels needed some TLC as the chisel angles were all over the place.

We were looking after a friend's house in France and accidentally broke the tip off one of her prized kitchen knives! Kai Shun. Replacement price was around £150 !!! We were devastated.
Found The Sharpening Service and after looking through the testimonials and the before and after photos, were happy to send the money off, and the knife.
From filling in the online form, and receival of the knife back in France was 12 days! And we didn't even post the knife off till a couple of days later. It arrived looking absolutely brand new, no missing tip, and sharp as anything. The only way it could possibly be known that something had changed would be if you measure the knife now and find it is maybe .5 cm shorter than before. The price... around £17 including the postage from France and back.
AMAZING service!

What an astounding discovery.
I had been frustrated by the lack of reliable tools or services to sharpen my ceramic knives.– don’t believe them when they say they’ll never need sharpening! I’m a qualified vegetarian and vegan chef and work with my knives every day. Although I have steel knives, I prefer ceramic for veg prep.
The Sharpening Service did an astounding job. Beautifully clean sharpness, and returned to me within a few days of sending them off. One of my knives had had its tip snapped off and I asked for a repair. I expected them to just get rid of the jagged edge, but they actually reshaped the tip. Incredible. I would not hesitate to recommend these people to any chefs or keen cooks who want to keep their knives in tip top condition with an occasional real sharpen as well as the day-to-day honing you might do.

Used this service a couple of times now. Very good result, razor sharp edge on my Wusthoff knives. Nice chap who I spoke to on the phone too. Would highly recommend it, you won't know how bad your knives were until they come back!!
One small negative though, I feel there's a big hole that could be filled between the 2 postage options. There are interim carriage options available that would better balance the risk of loss against the speed of delivery and of course the resulting cost. Although as a small business owner, I sympathise that these things are always more complicated to put into effect for small businesses. That said, it's still good value to end up with a knives that are better than they were when new!

UPDATE from The Sharpening Service - We have taken on board the points raised and have now modified our postal options to include '1st Class Signed For'. Tom's point was a valid one, and we always welcome suggestions on how you think we could improve our service.

Thank you for the prompt return of my Global bread knife. After twenty years of daily use and the effects of my efforts to maintain the sharpness of its scalloped edge, I despaired of it being truly sharp again. You have edged the scallops and restored the true bevel on the back of the blade - all under the guise of 'sharpening'. It is like new again and cuts perfectly.
I wish that I lived closer to you so that I did not have to endure Royal Mail staff treating me as a terrorist and demanding that the knife be entombed in cardboard before they would accept it!

Great service with excellent turnaround and it's so great to have our Sabatier knife set back to how they were when we get them 7 years ago. I'm handy enough with a steel to get a decent edge on a kitchen knife but they badly needed regrinding, I just didn't realise how much! The minimal cost to get them sharpened makes it all the more worthwhile to have bought a quality set of knives which will last for a good few years. I am a very picky person, especially if I want to be. The first thing is I posted it on Wednesday and on Friday morning I had my knives back in my kitchen! That is what I call a perfect service. The second thing is I inspected all my 4 Kai Shun knives very closely and the only thing I found was perfect sharpening. The knives are sharp as a razor, I can slice a tomato without holding it. I was a little dubious about sending my Overlocker blades to be sharpened. However, I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the service I received. Prompt service, and back within the week. Far better option than either (a) purchasing new Babylock blades at a very high expense, or (b), getting some "copy" blades which may have caused a lot of problems.

I have not hesitated in recommending this company to my friends who sew too, and where well maintained blades are a must.

I posted my two favourite knives on Wednesday I received a nice friendly email the following day saying the knives had been sharpened and were being returned in the post which I received on the Saturday morning. Get some proffesional help.

Wow.... what a massive leap forward my skills and confidence took in such a short time. It would be fair to say that I have by-passed months of heartache trying to teach myself.

Not only did I learn so much I also now know what I don't know which will enable me to continue learning and improving my skills now that I am heading in the right direction.

I had damaged my precious Kai shears which I use to cut 5mm neoprene. This is notoriously difficult to cut neatly with shears, even when perfectly sharp. The knife has been returned so quickly and has a new lease of life. The blade is sharper and better than it was when new. Plus they so kindly have cleaned and tidied the wooden handle so it looks so much better.

Just got my chisels and plane blades back today through the post. The chisels belonged to my wife's grandfather and the planes to my father. I don't think any of them had been sharpened for some time, and some of the chisel blades were in poor condition. I have to say I'm really impressed by the finish that has been achieved on all the blades. If you ever want a definition of a mirror-finish just look at my blades! Also, the turnaround was much quicker that I had expected. All in all, very good service and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

This is the first time I have used Sharpknives. I have used another on line service in the past, and there is no comparison between the two. Sharpknives excels on every level. The process on line to complete your order/request is so easy and simple. The actual speed of service was very impressive. My knives were sent and returned within days. The quality of workmanship of my two kitchen knives that were sharpened was first class. They are a dream to use again. The packaging in which they were returned was impeccable, as was the way I was kept up to date of the knives movements by e mail. I cannot recommend Sharpknives enough and will definitely use again, especially as I think it was very reasonably priced. The only comment I would make is the site does highlight the rules and regs of the Post Office in sending knives through the post which was very helpful and useful. It might be worth printing these off and taking with you when you go to post your knives as my local Post Office got all nervous and had to phone Head Office to check as they were uneasy just accepting my word.

I was nervous to send my joewell hairdressing shears off to be sharpened, because they are very expensive. I'm from the states, so sending your shears to someone to be sharpened isn't the norm. I'm used to giving them to hand delivering them to a company to be sharpened.

Knives just arrived back with us - amazing!
We knew they were blunt, but clearly couldn't remember how sharp knives can be - what a difference!
I've spent the last hour slicing and cutting every bit of food I could find... fruit, vegetables, chicken, steak, beef, lamb, whatever! I don't menu plan (though I always mean too!), but do know that over the next week everything we eat is going to consist of very finely chopped and sliced ingredients!

Received my scissors back, very good quick service, my scissors are lethally sharp, I am extremely pleased with the results, the only niggle I have and it is me being picky, my scissors were returned to me with a fair few finger prints on them and I assume it was honing paste on the blades, I also had to oil them, this is not a problem and I would deffo use this service again, it just would have been nice not to have to do this, please don't be offended.

Response :- Thanks for the comments Jane, and I'm sorry about the finger marks.
We always apply scissor oil, but the one we use dries leaving a waxy coating which is not that obvious, and will also be what held the finger marks I'm afraid.
We use a dry lubricant as it doesn't attract and hold hair debris as much as the normal wet mineral oil.

I sent off my saddler's splitting machine blade to be sharpened as it was second hand and had been abused by the previous owner. What a difference! I was able to split wide pieces of panel hide as well as 4 1/2" wide bridle leather with no trouble whatsoever. Thoroughly pleased with the result and it was quick too. I posted the blades off on a Thursday and received them back the Saturday after. There is just one problem, having sharp knives is very addictive!

Just wanted to leave a short note to say thanks to the team at KSCBSS as I have received my knives back and you have done a good job.
It was always easy to get my knives sharpened when I was in the chef trade but not so easy now I have left. Sent my knives on Sunday and got them back on Thursday.

Robin's service is second to none - I sent a Kai Shun chef's knife with a broken tip on Monday afternoon, and received the knife back first thing Wednesday morning, not only razor sharp but with absolutely no evidence of a broken tip whatsoever - pure magic!

Monday, posted off 4 Henckels chefs knives, an old Chinese style cleaver and a small garden penknife, which were beyond the help of my ceramic 'steel'. Returned Friday all with a razors edge!
I must admit I had been hesitant sending my 'precious' knives away after a previous bad experience with cheaper knives at a local 'grinders'!! Needless to say the professionalism by which these have been sharpened is Henckels factory like!
There will be no hesitation next time!! 10/10

I was gutted when I dropped my Type 301 Porsche chefs knife and took a chunk out of the blade. It gets a lot of use and has been with me for a while and the replacement cost was substantial. Then after a short search I found Robin and discussed my problem. Having viewed the galleries I was hoping that mine could be saved. I tried out sharpknives with a couple of global knives I had which had lost their edge, and a couple of pocket knives which were never really sharp anyway. They came back with a very good edge, and very quickly.
I followed up with all the edged objects I could round up, because the service is such good value, very little hassle, and really quick turnarounds.

I had 11 Global knives (inc. serrated) sharpened of which 2 required repair. They have come back as good as new.

My Oster dog clippers were also sent for repair. I was extremely impressed at the honesty with the repair, I received a phone call to say it was only the fuse that had blown. I was expecting and fully prepared to pay for a refurbished set.
I would happily recommend this service to friends and family and will certainly be using it next time my knives require sharpening.

I was made redundant in May 2013 and didn't know what I was going to do, then I came across Robins sharpening course
I have always been wary of courses not coming up to my expectations in being all theory and lacking in the practical department, Robin has got the mix perfect, he explains everything in a way that's easy to understand and encourages you to get your hands on, which is the only way you can learn this skill.
After the first couple of hours I knew this was what I wanted to do, he has taken his wealth of knowledge in the sharpening business and compressed it into a two day course that gives you all the tips and tricks you need to get started.
Going on Robins course was one of the best decisions I've made.

I sent a pair of global kitchen knives off on Monday. Received an email on Tuesday to say that knives had been received, repaired, sharpened and dispatched back to me. I got them on the Wednesday. You can't beat service like that!

One of the knives had some nasty little nicks in the blade which have been expertly repaired. The knives are sharper and better than when I bought them from new.

Do not hesitate to use Robin and team, they are brilliant. Thanks.

I had taken a good part of the tip off my MAC fillet knife only months after buying it... After spending weeks seeing if MAC could do anything I sent it to these guys... Pretty much the day it was delivered it was fixed and re posted out to me, and the next day i receive my knife back in its former glory!!!!! I'm a professional chef of almost 20years and have never used a sharpening/knife fixing company before, but the service and communication alone is worth every penny.... Robin will pass on years of sharpening experience, tips and advice. I want to say also, some of the information is not the sort you will find in books or forums, although there is that too, it's the sort of knowledge that can only be gained from experience. There was no marketing push behind any of this, Robin is an independant operator, unconnected to any manufacturers. If you are serious about sharpening, this is the course for you.

Fantastic service! on Monday morning i noticed that my favourite knife that i've been using for about 12 years had lost its tip. it was looking a bit battered in general and i almost bought a new one, but then stumbled across your website. less than 72 hours after noticing the damage i had my knife back as good as new, cuts like a dream and actually has a better profile at the tip than it did originally. couldn't have asked for better.

Further to the last comments,I saw Robin working on some knives that arrived by post. He did the work there and then, to an extremely high standard, and repackaged and sent them back that same day. Also, two 'walk up' customers respectively brought in a pair of garden shears and a hardresser's scissors. Robin sorted them out there and then - as good as new at a very reasonable cost. A superb service.

I quickly received an message back answering all my questions in a positive manner.

Having been on the knife sharpening training at the end of January I thought I would leave my comments and thanks.
We are bombarded these days with get rich quick schemes, particularly on the internet, let me assure you this is not one. Robin gives you the confidence to sharpen knives scissors, etc and encourages you to practice, practice and practice some more.
He explains you have to go out and look for the business it won't just come to you, no different to any business really. However as I can testify the business is out there, I have just picked up an order for 70 knives!
Robin also is there after the training, I have rung him up on several occasions to ask his advice which he has been more than happy to give.
Whether a sharpening business is for you only you can decide but for me I am so pleased I took the plunge. Thank you Robin

I gave my daughter and son-in-law a very good cooks knife which was miss used to chop goat bones!!(not by them). The blade had several large nicks and quite a ragged edge. As they live in Tanzania they didn't want the local pedal-powered knife grinder to sharpen the knife. So on my recent visit I brought the knife back for professional sharpening. I sent a carving knife and serrated bread knife to be sharpened. The service was fuss free, I was notified once my knives had been sharpened and despatched and I received them back with barely a meal's preparation missed!
Both knives now perform like I'd forgotten they could. Particularly impressive was my bread knife, although cleaning it has left our dish brush slightly worse for wear.
Overall I could not be happier with the service and I'm so glad that I decided to give this service a try rather than opting to replace my tired knives.

I have been searching for a gadget to sharpen my knives properly - I have bought a dozen different things to do it, however I have now found the perfect thing to sharpen my knives. His name is Robin.

Knives of all shapes and sizes sent off and came back by return beautifully sharp. They don't LOOK much different and they don't FEEL all that much sharper, but as soon as you use them you find they are MILES better.

I'm delighted and will be sending them back as soon as they need it. Many thanks on a great service.

Having struggled with blunt knives for ages I decided to try and get them sharpened. As some are 35 years old and were my knives at catering college they hold real sentimental value to me. I found The Knife Sharpening Service on the web and read the reviews. The reviews were very enthusiatic and complimentary and included domestic cooks and professional chefs. If professional chefs are willing to send their knives to Robin then I thought the service must be great and so rang Robin to discuss. Robin was very, very helpful and we agread a price for my 25 knives. I sent them to him early on a Thursday morning and received them back on the saturday. The knives are beautifully sharpened and the price was very reasonable. I liked the way that Robin kept me updated as to when he recieved the knives and when he had finished the job and sent them back. A great service, at a great price and the speed of service was amazing. I will definitely be using Robin and The Knife Sharpening Service again in the future and would recommend the service to anyone.

At first I was wary sending my knives off to get sharpened by a third party. But after seeing the results I would recommend you to any michelin starred chef, also the price (don't charge me extra but for the record you're too cheap) It's an excellent edge.

I'm sure you know all this, but you are an untapped resource. More chefs should be using you, they're obviously nervous about getting their knives badly ground!

Your other major hurdle is (which I've only just realised, but I'm sure you realised a long time ago) is chefs pride! And admitting that someone else other than them, can get a cleaner and straighter edge than they can?

I'm very impressed, the boys will send their knives soon I'm sure. I've got some more I need to send as well

Excellent speedy replies to my emails and also an amazingly fast turnaround on the knives I sent for sharpening. Having gently touched the edges, I think they are sharper now than the day I acquired them.

Whilst kitchen knives are not the ‘tools of our trade’ for my Wife and I, over the years we have invested in a set of very expensive Shun Kaji blades so as you can imagine, the thought of someone putting them on a ‘grindstone’ was quite off putting. Needs must though and the service, expertise, care and professionalism delivered by Robin meant all our fears were non-founded!

I was able to take the knives to Robin’s workshop and watched as he carefully restored each knife to razor (and I do mean razor!) sharpness, polishing and finally degreasing each with equal care.

If anyone has any concerns about the care, attention or value for money that Robin offers forget it! We will definitely be a long term customer and can not recommend the service enough.

Robin provides the best service your professional knives can have.
It is the second time I had my knives serviced in one year and once again they are sharper than ever. Twice I have been received with very short notice and have been able to watch him working, very interesting.
The level of service has been increased since my first visit with the three recently added polishing/ finishing wheels giving the knives an extra absolute finish and shine (sorry if I don't use the proper technical words!).
Robin's great customer care, his passion for sharpening, drive for perfection and very competitive pricing are all reasons why he provides the best service a blade would dream of! There isn't anyone in my area to provide such a level of service and I would definitely and happily do the 30 miles again when needed.
I highly recommend The Knife Sharpening Service to any chef who really cares about his knives (you should see what he can do with a blunt Global knife ! ) and to any professional or passionate DIY with a blade.
